Now, I’m sure we can all agree holidays are great…but for me it’s not just about that week away in the sun, snow or city.
I’m passionate about the whole travel experience. I have spent hours combing through deck plans for that perfect cruise ship cabin, researching which hotel in Corfu has the best value swim-up rooms, how to get from the airport to hotel quickly, easily and cheaply… Planning has always been part of the holiday experience for me.
More recently, after convincing some friends to come on a cruise (with an excellent and not-at-all over the top PowerPoint – evidence below) it got me thinking…
…and a year later, thanks to the JLT Group, Pentony Travel is born!
my travel experience
Working full time means I have to maximise my holiday allowance, but luckily for me…my partner has the same wanderlust. There are many places still on our list to explore but here are some of my favourite travel experiences that will help me find your perfect getaway.
Cruises
I caught the bug for cruising in February 2024 on my first sailing with Marella in the Caribbean. I’ve been hooked since… Seven cruises and another three booked! I’ve sailed with Marella in the Canaries, NCL in Taiwan and Japan, MSC in the Mediterranean and Norway, and later this year transatlantic with Virgin Voyages.
Japan
Like many, Japanese culture has always intrigued me… Studio Ghibli, shrines, Shinkansen, castles, the list is endless… In 2018, we went to Tokyo for a week and have been lucky enough to go back four times since, experiencing the southern tropical islands of Okinawa to the frozen north of Hokkaido.
Big cities
I love spending time in big cities. From the Asian megacities like Hong Kong, Seoul, Taipei, or closer to home in Athens, Madrid, Copenhagen, and Stockholm. Spending a week enjoying the hustle and bustle, foods, culture, shopping and nightlife ticks my boxes.
Canada
My first trip abroad without my family was to Montreal. I fell in love with the city instantly. The beauty of Notre-Dame Basilica, the view from Mount Royal, the busy sidewalks of Saint Catherine Street hooked me. Since then, we’ve spent time in Toronto and Niagara Falls, and we’re heading to the Maritimes later this year.
Greece
There’s no better place for relaxation than Greece. Corfu and Crete are our go-to spots for a relaxing holiday by the pool. When you feel like stretching your legs, there are wonderful towns close to most of the resorts with great food, shopping and sites that make a day of it.
Flights
Flight times that work for your destination and price. Airports that provide great comfort and ease of use for transits. Aircraft that are the right level of comfort for the flight length. Airlines that offer the right balance of value and service. The flight is the first part of a holiday and getting it right is so important.
